 What is the significance of the reference of the “ides of March” in Julius Caesar?

  1.   Julius Caesar is one fine and major tragedy of William Shakespeare, that abundantly mentions  superstition and fallacy.
  2.  “The Ides of March” possess utmost significance in the Roman history, as it was on this day that Caesar was stabbed to death.
  3.  Caesar ignored the omens and this led to his fatal flaw, resulting in the Civil War.
  4. Ides of March, in literature has undertones of betrayal.
  5. In short, we can conclude that at one point, the existence of this day, and the events that follows is what lets the play move forward. 

Critically discuss the significance of the reference to “Ides of March” in Julius Caesar

1.      The Ides of March, shall be considered as the tragic flaw in Julius Caesar, and so is it, in the history of Rome.

2.      Caesar gracefully ignores the warning by the Soothsayer, to be aware of the Ides of March, but his neglect triggered his downfall.

3.      In addition to calling the seer a dreamer, Caesar also disregarded the dream of his wife Calpurnia, which again shall be considered as an indication of the unavoidable ruination.

4.      Since Caesar was stabbed to death by people very close to him, there is shades of betrayal evidently visible in the concept of the Ides of March.

5.      Shakespeare effectively conveyed the idea of the Ides of March to be an unfortunate day by stating enough testaments for Caesars’ conceits.
